If you are a sub-doctoral postgraduate student, you can join The Centre for Academic Development — Student Learning by paying a $10 registration fee. If you’re a doctoral student, it’s free. Membership is valid for the calendar year.

EAL Conversation Groups
These twice-weekly sessions focus on cultural, literary and academic topics to increase your vocabulary and knowledge in areas such as New Zealand life, academic life, literature and arts. Doctoral Skills Programme
This programme offers a variety of courses and individual consultations for doctoral students. The programme will help you develop your academic and professional skills so that you can complete your doctorates successfully and achieve your goals.

Doctoral EAL Writing Workshop (D.EAL)
The D.EAL workshop is part of the Doctoral Skills Programme. Native-English-speaker volunteers are available to help EAL doctoral students with their writing. A volunteer will help you with your use of articles, verbal tenses and other language mechanisms. These sessions are held every fortnight.

LANGTCHG 715: Developing Academic Literacy
This course aims to help you understand and develop your academic literacy by exploring and analysing the technical, discourse and social practice components of academic texts:
- book and journal reviews
- library and research-based essays
- research reports (dissertations and theses).
The course is assessed in the same way as other 700-level courses. It cannot be audited.
